Movie - Kalki 2898 AD ~ My View
I went to this movie with high hopes, it seemed as though the whole of India was getting ready to watch this movie. In the first part of the movie Krishna cursed Ashwathama for attempting to kill Parikshith. At that time I couldn’t really understand that part. But later I understood that Krishna had taken the glowing gem (Shivamani) out of Ashwathama's forehead and cursed him of no death. Then the movie goes back to the future when it’s 6,000 years into kali yuga, when everyone almost loses all hope of finding Kalki, the savior.
Around that time a vehicle enters the dry desert of Kasi in hopes of finding livelihood. At the entrance guards searched for fertile girls as very few had the ability. A girl (Raia) disguised as a man was in the same vehicle but escapes to an old ruin where she finds herself trapped between Complex guards. This scene is really important because this is when Ashwathama finds his glowing stone and sets out to find the mother of KALKI!!!
In between all this the entry of Bhairava comes with a fight scene which is almost the only funny part in the movie. I felt that Ashwathama’s fight scene was better. Bhairava pays a visit to Complex with his friend Roxie, instead of working there like they were supposed to they decided to look around and they found a place where you can experience the time of your life (Which cost 1 million units to enter). With hopes of getting a permanent job at Complex he gets temporarily terminated. He finds a way to enter Complex by helping them catch SUM-80.
SUM-80 is a girl who has been living all her life in the complex lab. She hides her 150 day pregnancy so that the baby doesn’t get extracted, little does she know that this baby was kalki. She gets caught, and on the verge of extraction when she is saved by lilly a Shambhala spy posing as a project k subject. SUM-80 escaped to a group of Shambhala people and headed to Shambhala with them(Kyra, Ajju, Veeran). Kyra names SUM-80 as Sumathi. A group of bounty hunters try to capture Sumathi to return her to the Complex. They fight the hunters off but Kyra gets killed.
Soon after Ashwathama finds Sumathi and protects her by doing all the fighting. Bhairava pulls off many tricks but nothing works on Ashwathama. Ashwathama and Raia also set off with them to Shambhala.
Meanwhile commander Manas (commander of Complex)thinks he was the one who made all the ruckus and bans him permanently from Complex. Sumathi and the others reach Shambhala. Mariam who is the leader of Shambhala protects Sumathi. A few days later Bhairava came prepared to Shambhala. He disguised himself as ashwathama and convinced Sumathi to flee Shambhala. On the way they were intercepted by the real ashwathama and both of them fought.
The leader Mariam takes Sumathi away and gets killed by Manas while fighting him. Bujji transforms into a fighter even more powerful but still Ashwathama defeats him. Ashwathama is chained to the ground by Manas. Bhairava, seeing this, seized Ashwathama’s walking stick, killed Manas and held Sumathi with his own hands. Ashwathama pictured this as his old friend Karna, and freed his way to stop Bujji from going and returning Sumathi to the Complex.
They close the movie with that and at the very end Supreme Yaskin (leader of the complex, he takes all the extractions) takes in the one drop extracted from Sumathi and regains all power.
My feeling for this movie was not the best but since it is set in the future no one can really assume things. My favorite character would have to be Ashwathama because he is powerful and his fight scenes are amazing. I like how he remembers the Mahabharat well, and most of the good flashbacks are from him. In the Mahabharat Ashwathama would be more of a villain than a hero but I guess he has learned his lesson and decides to help for the right cause. In the end I don’t really understand why Bhairava had to come in and escort Sumathi to the Complex himself; it would have happened anyway. I also don’t understand what difference Bhairava makes in this story. The movie also does not show much of Indian culture other than the flashbacks.
One thing I really liked was the explanation given by Krishna to Arjuna. Krishna showed how powerful Karna is even if Arjuna’s chariot only moved 2 meters. He says “Oh Arjuna you have me, and the lords protecting your chariot and with an arrow of Karna the chariot moved 2 meters, think how great that is.”
This is my view, what’s yours?
